The legendary person called Qian Keng who lived during the Shang Dynasty (c.16th century-11th century B.C.), believed to be the eighth generation descendant of Huangdi, the Yellow Emperor. Because of Qian Keng's outstanding achievements, King Yao gave him the title of lord of Pengcheng (present-day Xuzhou in Jiangsu) and thus he became known by the surname Peng. His descendants referred to him as Peng Zu (Ancestor Peng).

Peng Zu is a legendary long-living figure in China who was from Wuyi Mountain. He has supposedly lived since Yin Dynasty. Official Court records document that he lived to be 880 years old (some say that one year was 60 days in ancient China, that made him more than 130 years old while others say he was accidentally missed out from the death list in heaven). He was well known in the Chinese culture as a symbol for long life, nutrition treatment and sex therapeutic treatment. He maintained his health so well that he married more than 100 wives along the way and fathered hundred of children, as late as in his 800s.

Peng Zu was said to have the face of a child, never-looking old man. The way he kept himself in good health was by taking Ganoderma Lucidum and drinking the chute, living in reclusion and good health. Chinese people believe that his long life, good health and sexual energy were attributed to the food he ate.

Emperor Wu of Han (156 BC-87 BC), personal name Liu Che was the seventh emperor of the Han Dynasty in China, ruling from 141 BC to 87 BC Emperor Wu was the tenth child of Emperor Jing, and was born to one of Emperor Jing's favorite concubines. He was chosen as prince at the age of seven and was enthroned when he was sixteen years old. At the age of 70, he died on the throne, ending his 54-year rule.

During his time, he adopted the suggestions of a civil official, Dong Jing Su to reject the thoughts of other schools and follow the Confucius school.

Confucianism influence continued for more than a thousand year until the Ming Dynasty. Dong Jing Su focused on the interaction between Heaven and Man, considering that the actions of man also affects Heaven.

If the Emperor is wise and kind, heaven will show auspicious signs. So if Ganoderma Lucidum was found in the palace, it means the Emperor has more integrity, which will bring about peace and prosperity. Therefore it has been known as an auspicious herb and claimed by the ruling class for having a mysterious super natural power.

Emperor Wu is best remembered for the vast territorial expansion that occurred under his reign, as well as the strong and centralized Confucian state he organized. He is cited as one of the greatest emperors because his time were among the most prosperous periods in Chinese history.

Ganoderma Lucidum has 5,000 years of history as a medicine in China. Since the ancient times, it has been called the magic herb, aspicious herb, precious herb, a herb for life. It is also treated as "panacea," tribute for emperors and later earned the nickname "supernatural eastern mushroom" from people of the west.

During the reign of Emperor Han Wu Di about 2100 years ago, Ganoderma Lucidum were found growing all over the palace. The virtues of Ganoderma (Lingzhi in Chinese, Reishi in Japanese) have been known since ancient times in China and first documented during the reign of Fu Xi (2952 - 2836 BC). Fu Xi was a legendary Chinese ruler, and historically known as the "First of the Three August Ones."

Ganoderma was so valued that it was used almost exclusively by Emperors and by high ranking courtesans. It is no wonder Ganoderma is called "The King of Herbs."
